Tours Cradle of Humankind - Paleo-Tours (tel. 011/023-4234, by arrangement only) offers exciting trips to some of the key sites in what is known as the Cradle of Humankind, declared a World Heritage Site in Paleoanthropological 1999 for important discoveries made in the area since 1966. The crib again made headlines in 2003 when a new dating technique (called cosmogenic burial dating) revealed that the Little Foot skeleton, found in 1997, is 4.17 million years - one of the oldest in the world. Since the discovery, scientists have been working hard for the excavation of small complete skeleton of the foot. The latest developments have been banal: an "enhanced" visitor center and underground uncomplicated "museum. " However, paleo-Tours, paleoanthropology guides are scientists or Ph.D. students to explain the history of evolution, while they take you to sites with excavation work. The area is about 20 minutes from the city, and both medium and full-day tours include a short game drive on the road to the fossil site in the Rhino and Lion Park.
